Dark theme guys, please come on

No one gets tired of reminding you that you don't have Dark Mode. Get a grip, I would even pay extra for a dark mode.
Everything about Filezilla is really great, but the UI feels like it's 20 years ago.

It is 20 years old. :lol:

There's only so many things we can work on at a time. There are unfortunately more important things to focus on than dark mode, which would require a substantial effort.

Heya!
I registered just to necro on this because it's simply unpleasant to use the amazing software that is FZ with no dark mode
I'm sure you devs are used to it, but trust me, 90% of us advanced users are using windows in dark mode, probably in the middle of the night...

It may not be a priority when compared to other functional stuff, but this is borderline NECESSARY to keep FZ from obsolence

thanks! hope this gets prioritized!

Windows itself simply does not have Dark Mode support in the relevant Win32 API. You need to wait until Microsoft makes this functionality available in the Win32 API.

I'm going to have to nix the wait for Windows mantra on this dark mode thing. Filezilla needs to take the bull by the horns with their own program and take the control panel colors registry convert it to xml in the filezilla install folder and then point the program to use that. Give it some values that look good for a dark mode and call it good. If we want to change it we just change the xml file values for now. Just make it simple and do it. Otherwise, we are all going to be waiting years for Microsoft if they ever fix it or will switch to another program. Just do it people.

The Win32 API does not use XML.

It can be converted to xml. "ActiveBorder"="0 0 0" as in name value pairs

Here is rudimentary example. I'm sure you can do better namespacing it as well. Just put it in a file in the install folder and point the program away from the control panel colors registry and instead to this file. And change the values to make it look the way you want.

{
"ActiveBorder":"0 0 0",
"ActiveTitle":"25 25 25",
"AppWorkspace":"50 50 50",
"ButtonAlternateFace":"50 50 50",
"ButtonDkShadow":"105 105 105",
"ButtonFace":"50 50 50",
"ButtonHilight":"0 0 0",
"ButtonLight":"75 75 75",
"ButtonShadow":"25 25 25",
"ButtonText":"200 200 200",
"GradientActiveTitle":"50 50 50",
"GradientInactiveTitle":"25 25 25",
"GrayText":"150 150 150",
"HilightText":"200 200 200",
"HotTrackingColor":"75 75 75",
"InactiveBorder":"50 50 50",
"InactiveTitle":"25 25 25",
"InactiveTitleText":"200 200 200",
"InfoText":"200 200 200",
"InfoWindow":"50 50 50",
"Menu":"50 50 50",
"MenuBar":"50 50 50",
"MenuText":"200 200 200",
"Scrollbar":"25 25 25",
"TitleText":"200 200 200",
"Window":"50 50 50",
"WindowFrame":"50 50 50",
"WindowText":"200 200 200",
"Background":"25 25 25",
"Hilight":"0 0 0",
"MenuHilight":"75 75 75"
}

Edit - note you only do this conversion once then use it instead of the registry. You don't have to keep any colors tied to the registry. It all comes from the xml file in the install folder.

No, there are many issues with that approach.

AFAIK that works only for WinUI enabled applications. FileZilla does not use WinUI, it would break cross-platform compatibility.

There's the standard Windows API, which is perfectly themeable and did support custom colors for everything ever since at least Windows 3.1. Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, decided that users do not deserve such functionality and actively removed the ability to configure colors from Windows.

To this day, Windows still fully supports custom colors and themes, but you just cannot configure it.

Don't like the lack of dark mode? Don't tell me, tell Microsoft.
