Failed transfers (4) --- Every Time!

#1 Post by dibl » 2022-07-25 16:49

Filezilla ver. 3.60.1 running on Win 10. The problem has existed for at least six months now, including on the preceding Filezilla version(s). I'm on cable internet service with ethernet connection to my router.

I have a website, hosted on Freehostia, that consists of 4,143 files and 20 directories, total size approximately 213 MB. During uploads, there is always a reported transfer failure of 4 files. These four files are always sequential in the upload file list, but are not the same four files every time. The failure usually happens fairly early in the upload. I've never seen it happen more than once per upload, and it is always four sequential files. The reported cause of the failure is always "Timeout".

When uploading, I use the "Overwrite if newer or different size" option because some of the files never change.

After uploading, I check which four files were allegedly not transferred, and manually drag and drop them one at a time, and they always transfer immediately. As you can see in today's screenshot, it appears that of the four claimed transfer failures, only the second two actually didn't go up.

Does anyone have a theory of where and why this failure is truly occurring -- my computer, my router, my ISP, Filezilla, or ????.

What does it say in the message log when the error occurs?

Looks like an unstable connection between the client and the server, with the server not responding for a while. FileZilla retries, but eventually gives up as the error did not go away. You can configure in the settings how often FileZilla should retry and how long to wait between attempts.

Thank you -- I'm going to try to adjust it to be a little more patient.

I changed the 20 second timeout to 30 seconds, and I changed the 5 second retry to 10 seconds. Results below. I don't think this issue has anything to do with Filezilla. Next stop -- Freehostia tech support.

Thank you for your attention.

SOLVED.

In "Edit > Settings", I changed the timeout value to 30 seconds and the max retries to 8. These settings overcome whatever the delay is on the hosting site.
