Filezilla Client does not close or update correctly on Windows 7 32 bits

#1 Post by slolo » 2022-12-14 09:06

Hello,

I am using Filezilla Client since many years now and since several versions I have a problem with it.
I am on Windows 7 32 bits (running in a Virtual Machine VMWare for development purpose)

When I exit the program, the processus "filezilla.exe" does not close correctly and stay visible in task manager (see screenshot in attachment).

Also, when I update Filezilla, I always have a problem whith the "libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll" which is locked by the system.
Filezilla cannot be upgraded and I have to reboot the machine (or kill explorer.exe) in order to update it.

Can you confirm the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and have a nice day.

You need to updater to a more modern operating system. Windows 7 is no longer supported.

Hi and thank you for your answer.

You are right, it works very well on Windows 10 and more.

But I have no choice and I can't change my Virtual Machine for the moment because I have to work in 32 bits.

But I suppose that it is more a problem of coding than a problem of the operating system.

I suspect that a file is not correctly release when closing filezilla and the process stay in background.

But I can understand you don't want to investigate the problem for old operating system.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Windows 10 is available in 32bit.

The failure to close isn't limited to Windows 7 32bit, Windows 8.x and 10 32bit experience it, too. Only the 32bit versions are affected, 64bit is fine.

Hi,

The problem still exists in the last version 3.36.0 (see screenshot bug.jpg in attachment)

The DLL is locked by "explorer.exe" (see screenshot lock.jpg in attachment)

Killing the process and restart it do the job and the installer is able to upgrade Filezilla.

I am pretty sure that the problem should be quite easy to correct.
Just make sure the DLL is released when you exit the program.

I hope you could do something for this small problem.

2023/08/03 This is still a problem as of FileZilla_3-65-0_win32-setup.
C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client\libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll file in use (open in Windows Explorer?)
I'm running Win7-32; Microsoft won't support my (Microsoft) Foxpro 2.6 for DOS 16-bit custom application on any newer Windows version.
Reboot and log in as administrator helped FileZilla update this time.
For about the past year, I have had to rename the file, reboot, delete the renamed file as administrator, then do the upgrade installation.
I love FileZilla and rely on it for client website updates... it would be nice if this problem were addressed.

It's a toolchain issue. Most likely won't ever get fixed. You need to upgrade to a 64bit operating system.

Try running it in an emulator such as DOSBox.
