FileZilla and Apple Store

Post by jeff4921 »

I think I'm screwed. I'm not sure, but I think the latest upgrade to MacOS Ventura damaged my FileZilla Pro files. When I try to open the program, I get a login dialog box asking me to enter my Apple ID. Unfortunately, I've deactivated my Apple ID because I was being bombarded by Apple to do something to make it work. What that action was was not in the least apparent. If I cancel that login dialog box, I get another dialog box telling me to go to the Apple Store and to delete what I have and install a fresh copy. Since I can't open FileZilla, I suppose there is no way to save the information for the accounts I access using the program. Does anyone have any ideas how to get out of this bind? If I have to download a fresh copy, I'll probably have to buy it as I can't find my confirmation email with the license #. I'm not even sure I ever got that from Apple. I bought this program a number of years ago and it has been a real workhorse. I really, really do not like Apple and their Apple Store monopoly tactics!

Unless macOS has decided to delete the files, you can still find your saved sites and other settings in the "~/Library/Containers/org.filezilla-project.filezilla.sandbox/Data/.config/filezilla/" directory.

FileZilla Pro is also available outside of the App Store: https://store.filezillapro.com/order/ch ... Wsn5WpjLg=

Hmmmm .... all I can find is "~/Library/Containers/FileZilla Pro/containers.plist" and "~/Library/Containers/FileZilla Pro/Data". "Data" is a folder but there is nothing like you describe in that folder. I guess this is why FileZilla is broken. Gee, thanks a bunch, Apple! :(

I just checked a Time Machine backup from December of last year, well before the latest Apple "upgrade" and I didn't find a directory like you described then, either. The file paths were the same then as they are now.

I'm disappointed with the support offered. Since I could not locate the files I needed and would have to rebuild them, I have uninstalled FileZilla and purchased Transmit. I enjoyed using FileZilla for a number of years, but this incident is a deal-breaker and I no longer have a use for the program. An upgrade of Mac OS should not break FileZilla.

If the files are gone and aren't even in a time-machine backup, how are we supposed to help? Magic hasn't been invented in this universe. We cannot materialize your data out of thin air through wishful thinking.
