Files start in the middle?

#1 Post by MrBongo » 2023-06-22 11:11

Heyho,

newly registered user here. Using Filezilla for work, transferring .wav audio files.
We discovered about one out of 200 files I´m uploading starts somewhere in the middle, giving no errors on up- or downloading, no other artifacts. This was a repeatable issue with the same files on two Filezilla Client versions.

I have not yet found an answer to this by quick googling. Any ideas what might cause this to happen?
Does that even have to be a Filezilla issue?

cheers
Michael

Is this specific to this particular type of file, or does it happen with other files as well?

Hey, back again.
After hundreds of error free uploads I had three files in the last days that were too short on the server.
I cannot really test it with other kinds of files other than .wav audio, there´s only .txt files and audio allowed.

On my uploading computer there´s no other programs running, at least not actively started by the user. Workload is low. Filezilla updated in the meantime.
e: I did work on my other computer connected to the same router. Is it possible this is harmful for the upload?
No one else in the workgroup seems to get these errors. :(

Routers and firewalls certainly can cause such issues unless encryption is used.

Which protocol are you using? Is it FTP over TLS (FTPS), insecure plain FTP, or SFTP?

Removed some info, hope there´s no more critical stuff :D

I´m not _that_ techy, can I modify the setting in any user-friendly way or is that server sided?

Explicit FTP over TLS. That's good.

That is not good, the server is very outdated. Please contact the server administrator or server hosting provider and have the server software updated. As of typing this, the most recent version of FileZilla Server is 1.7.2

FileZilla Server 0.9.60 beta
That Server version is not in support for years, no help can be provided for it. It must urgently be migrated to a supported version , preferably FileZilla Server 1.7.2.

Edit: Ninja-ed again by the guy above. :o

Thanks a lot!
I´ve forwarded this for discussion whether it makes sense to upgrade or not :)

The answer is Yes. Not up for discussion. That old Server depends on an ancient OpenSSL library, with all its huge security holes. It's not up to snuff, by far.
