I'm having trouble uploading...

#1 Post by EthanTheRailfanner » 2023-07-20 23:32

This is my first time trying to use FileZilla to upload my content to a client that I have logged into, and right when I was going to upload my stuff onto the site, after 40 or so transfers, it would stop and give me a 425, then continue transfeering, and repeating the cycle. I have a friend of mine who also uses this client and he has uploaded 1,000 test files onto the server without any problems, but after uploading a few pics like my friend, it would get stuck at 100% and I would have to stop and remove all of them. Here's a few images on why I'm getting stuck:

According to the friend, he says that my network is my problem. I've tried many options, including changing the firewall to allow through, switching my network from public to private, and others, but all failed. I'd like to know if there are any fixes to it. Thanks!

Update: after resetting my settings to the default, now it would give me connection time out. It would continuously loop too, with my only way is to close it out and reopen it again. My friend didn't experience this.

Look at the port in the EPRT command and the port mentioned in the reply to the STOR command: They are different.

That means that there is a malicious firewall or NAT router somewhere between the client and the server that is actively sabotaging FTP.

I now think I've narrowed my solution to get it fixed to this. Is there anyway that I can stop the sabotaging? I've tried to change the firewall settings, but came out blank. I've also sent the reply to the friend who might help me to get it through.

Why are you using Active Mode (PORT/EPRT) mode, anyway? Do you have to use it? If not, Passive (PASV/EPSV) mode is the recommended way to connect to an FTP server these days, as it is much more firewall-friendly.

Active mode is more or less a relic from the past, from the beginnings of FTP, when firewalls didn't exist like they are today.
No support requests over PM! You will NOT get any reply!!!

I just didn't know how I would fix it. Even after a few transfers in passive mode, I would still get a data connection time out and stop transfering, and I would get a response saying entering passive mode, even though I already would. I have narrowed my solution to fixing my NAT; it wouldn't be the firewall, because if that were to happen, my friend would have connection problems, which is why my NAT is the cause of everything.

EDIT: After about 10 minutes, now it would give me this response and errors:

As of now, I've tried absolutely everything to my knowledge to get it fixed. I first tried to use my personal hotspot to upload a large amount of files, and it failed. I tried changing the settings to allow the Windows Firewall through inbound rules, and failed. I tried to restart my internet router, failed. I tried doing this on my newer laptop, also failed, I even tried finding solutions to fix it, and also failed. The only answer I have is that my NAT is somehow blocking the FTP with no way of unblocking. That means my friend can upload 1,000 files at once without any problems, whereas I try to upload 100, and it would get stuck at 25 and time out.

Update

#8 Post by EthanTheRailfanner » 2023-08-01 22:40

Update on August 1, 2023:

So a few days ago, I decided to go to my friends house and upload from his network, turns out, once I started uploading, it would begin uploading straight away. In fact, I began to upload 30,000 small files onto the queue, and about 2 hours later, every single one of them was successfully transferred. Not a single one failed. I also got into a group with the site administrators on Messenger to keep a heads up within. As from my friend said, my problem now has been narrowed to my router; as now I can't access the site of what I just uploaded unless I switch to my hotspot, which will connect to the site, but would still give me problems of stopping after 100 uploads.

My friend's router is Google Fiber, while mine is from Comcast, if anyone is curious. I have tried every solution that I could think up of to fix it, and not one of them fixed the problem. I am now asking if there is anyway for my router to stop sabotaging the FTP.

Get a proper router that runs an open-source firmware such as OpenWrt that you can use instead. In case you cannot replace your ISP-provided router, just put it into bridge mode and so that it becomes a dumb modem, and put the proper router behind it.
