Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
When attempting to open the latest update download on the desktop, I receive this message: "Unable to expand "FileZilla_3.66.1_macosx-x86.app.tar.bz2" into "Desktop". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.)"
I am, however, able to use Terminal to unpack the .tar file from the compressed .bz2 file format. However, further attempts to open the .tar file by double-clicking it give the same basic error as above, and attempting to use Terminal reports as follows: "tar: Unrecognized archive format"
My OS is version 10.13.6
This is a first time for this error on my system. I've been using FileZilla for many years through many updates. There have been no recent changes to my OS.

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
I have no idea. It's a simple tar file, nothing special about it. Created the same way it has always been created.
Did you verify that the checksum of the .tar.bz2 matches the one published on the website?

Thank you for your response...
I have now verified that the checksums are identical.

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
I had the same problem in 10.14.6. I by no means really know what I'm doing, but here's what worked for me...
bzip2 -d FileZilla_3.66.1_macosx-x86.app.tar.bz2
then
tar -xvf FileZilla_3.66.1_macosx-x86.app.tar
After the tar command spat out about 100 lines in the terminal, there was a FileZilla 3.66.1 app in the working directory. It seems to function fine so far.

Drop the v from the arguments and it won't bother you with the hundred lines

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
Thanks for the suggestions... I copied and pasted the command lines for Terminal. The first one to unpack the .tar file from the bz2 encoding worked and produced the desired uncompressed .tar file. I then ran the second line (and removed the "v" to avoid a verbose outcome). I did receive two error messages in Terminal, but also received a working FileZilla application.
These were the error messages in Terminal:
tar: Ignoring malformed pax extended attribute
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
Another quirk, however, is that the FileZilla application opened with the language set to Spanish. This was a first. I can read Spanish so no problem, I was able to reset the localization to English.
In summary, two firsts: The application download file required two processing steps in Terminal to become available for use, and the application opened in Spanish. However, all's well that ends well.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
I have a Mac desktop 10.13.6 and having the same problems as other people. I have never had issues before with FileZilla but I can't download this update at all - and getting the same errors as others. Any ideas please?

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
I have had this same issue (exactly the same error message) with trying to update to 3.66.1; I'm on MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave (I need the 32-bit libraries, unfortunately).
I *did* manage to expand and install, eventually, using "The Unarchiver.app" rather than the default "Archive Utility". Strange glitch (as also with the Greek interface showing up, as discussed in another thread!). Odd from the generally bullet-proof FileZilla....

Dajara - thanks for your posting. As write this I have been onto FileZilla to update a website page and the 'new system update' has not popped up. Thank goodness for that.

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
I am encountering the same error: "unable to expand FileZilla_3.66.1 ... into "downloads (error 1 - operation not permitted"). I have not experienced any problems when installing previous FileZilla updates, using Mac's standard "archive utility" app
Mac Air (intel chip), OS 10.14.6 (I use this version since I have some 32 bit apps)

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
Hello. Now having the exact same problem with version 3.66.4. I did find a bug report from 4 weeks ago on this in the bug report section (details below).
Error message when attempting installation: Unable to expand "FileZilla_3.66.4_macos-x86.app.tar.bz2" into "Desktop". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.)
Bug report #13038 mac os x : Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1 & 3.66.4
Note: this error is a recent development. For many years prior, updates installed flawlessly.

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
A few days ago I got notification of the latest FileZilla 3.66.4 to download and, like 3.66.1, got an error:
So I am staying with the one I've got which is working.

Re: Unable to expand and install FileZilla 3.66.1
Hello. Now having the exact same problem trying to install version 3.66.5
I haven't been able to upgrade since 3.66.0 (I get "unable to expand" error when I tried to install 3.66.1, 366.2, etc)
MacBook using OS 10.14.6
it would be nice to be able to easily install the latest version of Filezilla (which has bug, security fixes etc)

Try updating to a more recent version of macOS.
