Is it possible to move the sitemanager.xml file from its default location in the Filezilla Client? The instructions I have found relate to Filezilla Pro, and a file called fzdefaults.xml which doesn't seem to exist in the client.

Check the docs subdirectory. There is an fzdefault.xml template with instructions inside.
