uploaded files, but no site

ok this may be a totally dumb question, but I am new to all this and I'm really struggling... I uploaded my flash palette site, and then did an update and tried again, now I've got 60 failed transfers, and my site is nowhere to be found..... I was under the understanding that once you loaded everything using filezilla your site was workable.Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am lost....
everything says it is uploaded, so is there another step that I'm missing here. I have looked at a million tutorial sites, and I was thinkning that should be it...
