What FTP server software is being connected to?
Without any logs, we can only guess, but from the given figures, it looks like you deal with an ancient FTP server that does not support file sizes above 2GB. With a 3GB file, it will overflow at 2GB and end up with the remaining 1GB only.
Maybe even a DOS-based server? DOS' FAT16 file system did not support file sizes above 2GB anyway.
