SFTP Server not connecting

#1 Post by AntonioTG » 2024-03-14 22:54

I have been working recently with someone on an issue with FileZilla in my company. For some reason, the end-user cannot connect to the server provided. I also tried to connect with my own computer and it wouldnt (Thought i dont need to use the server). Others on their team can connect flawlessly, and so far, all configurations are the same. We have yet to delve into any Firewalls being the issue. I have searched the forums, and the only posts about this issue; the fixes didnt work. The chatlog gives no error except for "Error: Could not connect to server". Any insight on this would be heavily appreciated, and I will gladly elaborate on any portion of this. I tested connecting with running the installer as admin, and installing locally, then trying to install it to all users. I changed the timeout to 200 seconds but it still cant connect even before that time. The affected user is on Windows 10, and the users that can connect are on Windows 11. I am also on Windows 11, but cannot connect. No VPN is required to connect to this server either.

If I had missed some fix in the forums, please link it so I can take a look. I do not want to make repetitive posts that others have done, but its a very slightly time sensitive task. Thanks in advance.

Please post a complete log of a connection attempt, with the debug log level set to verbose in the settings.

Marked out the addresses for security reasons, due to this host being outside my company, but let me know if it is necessary to see them. I have verified between users that can access the site versus cant access the site, and the addresses are the same.

Also let me know if I did that correctly with the debug information, which does two connection attempts.

Thanks for your time and reply.

Can you please attach the log in textual form directly to this topic? I'm not able to access the third-party website you want to use.

Maybe some firewall is blocking the connection. Maybe it's a DNS issue and the hostname doesn't resolve to the correct IP address. Maybe it's a routing issue, Maybe there simply is no working server to begin with under that address, and the ones able to connect are actually connecting to a different server.

So we had tested a CMD prompt with "ping address" to test. So far, on all machines (the unaffected, affected, and my own which also cant connect), it tries 4 times then times out. From other posts i've seen, it seems when they try that, they get a response. Would an SFTP server send a reply through ping? I am not familiar much with the back-end portions of that. I also know thats kind of outside FileZilla, but I thought id ask, to see if that would confirm the "No routing address" portion of your answer. I did confirm; and manually entered myself, the exact same address not only from their message from their managers, but also from the ones not affected by the issue, if thats what you were referring to. I am having them try and get a contact point with someone on the hosting side of the server to get a different view. I can also see if we can get a Firewall acception, since that was also a solution mentioned with other sort of similar issues.

I appreciate your help and any further inputs you might have.

Would an SFTP server send a reply through ping?
No. Ping uses the ICMP (and ICMPv6) protocol. Ping can be blocked on servers without impeding the other services.
No support requests over PM! You will NOT get any reply!!!
FTP connection problems? Please read Network Configuration.
