Thanks for your suggestion. Can you tell me how to run FileZilla in a profiler? Thanks
Also if there's a known Vista problem, why do other FTP software I've used work fine? I've used CoreFTP, WS_FTP... But I like FileZilla better for some reason. So I don't think it's related to my system. That's my thinking anyway.

Download the source, compile it, annotate it, profile it, analyze the data.

Is the source linux based? I downloaded it though I believe it requires linux. Or is there a way to compile within Windows?
Thanks

Under Windows you need Cygwin to compile it. Look in the development forum.

Hi
Sorry it has taken a while but I have not had time to compile the application. However I have noticed this.
I have a mapped drive to my server which is sitting right next to me. Take this directory structure for example.
S:\ | Mapped Drive
S:\files\ | 5 files in here, opens quick.
S:\files\documents\ | 500 files, about 2mb folder size, opens slow
When I open the mapped drive, S Drive, it takes about 20 seconds since there are many files and folders. When I open a folder "files", if there is only say 5 files for example it loads in 2 seconds. Say there is a sub-folder now which has say about 500 files, which is about 2MB it takes 30 seconds to load.
In saying this, I think it takes a while to calculate how big the folder is when it is being opened.
Does this help?

Well - I have to say the problem was Avast. I had to uninstall it as I had a problem with Yahoo Messenger. Avast was uninstalled for 2 days and speeds inside FileZilla drastically increased. Takes 2 seconds now and does not freeze the window.
So, in short, Avast is the culprit for me.

Useless virus scanners. I'm surfing the net without virus scanner nor firewall for over a decade. Proper configuration beats snake oil big time.

I know you can get away with a hardware firewall, but what configuration do you do for a virus scanner?

You could use Linux (sorry, couldn't resist
).
