i wasn't sure, but that's what i thought until the interface ran

there is no change, certainly no different than a reboot that i can tell, the server is set to automatically start.

1. shut off server with shortcut on desktop
2. closed the interface by right clicking it in the system tray
3. verified that the service wasn't running in services.msc
4. verified that there were no readily identifiable running fz processes were running in task manager
5. typed in the run box ' "C:\Program Files\FileZilla Server\FileZilla Server.exe" /compat ' *
* its my understanding the single tick ' is excluded in common practice, i added the space for clarity and those who may have incredibly small fonts
6. started the interface with shortcut on desktop
7. opened the interace by right clicking the icon in the system tray
8. verified the server was connected
9. went to LAN computer with fz client installed and did a hard boot of the machine
10. started fz client with shortcut on desktop
11. connected to the server

no change anywhere in anything that i can find, currently trying to get a LAN that is not my own to settings that match my own *he is using E: drive and directing to C: drive...so far we have not been able to manage this alias being recognized in the clients when the home directory is not set to the same directory containing the operating system

he is on a different ISP, router/modem configuration and hardware, operating system so far we have

-overcome the connection wizard not working by just ignoring it
-created a connection between us both client/server both sides
-verified process with transferring files from public ftp both of us
-transferred files to each other over the ftp, saving the ftps for later

but so far no alias configuration is seen by the client when the home directory isn't on the operating system drive, if i recreate the problem there then my services and mce are off the hook i believe

i was NOT able to recreate the problem on the other LAN!!

so then the culprit is definitely mce? now is the time i go and try the system service suggestion by da chicken??

unless the fact that his home directory for my client is on USB and his alias is on the same drive as his operating system makes any difference, but i don't see any reason why this would be the case.

damn you bill gates!

suggestions?

Installing MCE 2005 into a virtual machine ATM. Will definitely check this.

MCE is not the culprit. Your system permissions are the problem.

installing into a VM (ATM - whatever that is) is beyond my current ability, and rather than learn that i'd rather reinstall xp pro here.

ok so the system services aren't the problem, permissions are.....

i have no security tab on my local system properties for fzs, so i can't fix this there

i can't find the global policy editor in mce

i can't find anything that looks related anywhere in the computer management (with the exception of a few services i think should be on....like network dde dde/dsdm)

is this not fixable in mce? any ideas where to look, i would love to be able to change the permissions, where can i find these?

am i close in looking into a couple of the posts here? http://search.techrepublic.com.com/sear ... ndows.html

thanks much!

ATM = at the moment. I've done that already. Maybe I can reproduce that problem, it's the first step to solving the mystery. 8)

Going to sleep now. 2:40. :(

by all means get some sleep, i appreciate all the time and effort you've put in very much.

i think this topic should be closed and carried on in the general topic's thread MCE and aliases.

see you over there!!
