FileZilla 3 Icons

#1 Post by botg » 2005-08-13 22:19

There was a database problem with the previous topic and my repair attempt destroyed it.

Well, here are the recent icon suggestions again:

It is good to see that the FZ text is made bigger, so this is readable on the 3 largest icons.

The two large icons are good imho, but the smaller icons could be better. The details of what is in the folder can't be determined. Furthermore the arrows (up/down) are not easy to identify. Maybe you could make the arrows (up/down) a bit larger for the two smallest so that is more clear. For the smallest icon you could remove the FZ in the folder as that cannot be read.

Ok, I tweaked the icon a little more, made the lines bolder and the arrows bigger.

I also made the lines even thicker for the 16x16 and 32x32 versions. But the 16x one still is a little bit hard to make out... Hopefully most people will never see it though, as I doubt many people have icons set that small on their systems anymore...

The source file is an SVG, so it will be scalable for Linux users too

ZephyrXero » Looks nice with the new borders for the icon. The 32x32 icon can get some better details as I think many people use this size on theire desktop (windows) and the 16x16 is mostly used in the startmenu or in the quick launch toolbar.

Could you put some more contrast on the FZ logo which is used for the 32x32 icon? Also the details of the content of the folder (especially the CD) is not easy to determine...

The 16x16 icon is used in the taskbar, so it's important that the 16x16 icon is as good as possible.

ZephyrXero, could you please post the SVG too? Then I could test some minor changes like arrow sizes or coloring myself.

Nice html document inside the folder ;)

I've noticed a flaw in the icon: the FZ logo is askew. If you move the FZ logo to the left side of the folder, it should line up with the border of the folder, but in fact the paths don't match.

Once the Fz is lined up I think thatll be it. It's easily distinguishable at all sizes and looks fantastic.

What about this:

I've modified the color of the folder to be yellow.

I know why (or I think I know) you want to change the folder to be yellow but it looks poisonous. Maybe another color yellow, without the gradient, and green FZ?

Yeah, I'm not to keen on the yellow version either personally...I'll see if I can scrounge up some more time to tweak it later on tonight (trying to finish up moving right now).

I wanted to try out a yellow folder because most folder are yellow, it's what I'm used to.

Ok, I made a version with the folder a little more "manila" than yellow... although I still perfer the grey/blue folder ;)

I also worked on getting the FZ symbol a little better aligned.

I agree, the previous color was better.

I've corrected the alignment of the FZ symbol in the original svg. Also I've darkened the FZ symbol slightly more.

@ botg: You modifications on ZephyrXero's logo are looking nice. For a large icon or for a logo on e.g. about form/startup banner and on the homepage this very nice.

The point that need to be looked at is the fact that the <html> document in the folder has a to small font size on the smaller icons <= 32x32. Maybe this could be made a bit larger on those size of the icons.

Furthermore I like this icon very much. In the other thread someone also designed some toolbar icons, maybe he (don't know who it was) can design some buttons with this logo in mind...

Unlike Woudloper, I do like the icon, but I agree with him. The <html> text is small for tiny icon, but if it could be removed in small icons, but kept in larger ones. Muliple icons could be a problem with OSX though as OSX resizes icons automatically (as far as my experience shows).

The html on the icon is not an integeral part of the icon so there's no point in going on and on about it like this....it's not meant to legible to anyone..lol. It's just texture...
