and just a lame idea from myself:

Unfortunatly I can't use the Tango icons for FileZilla 3 since they come under a license which is not GPL compatible. The Tango icons are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license. See http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html why it's not compatible with the GPL.

you don't want to?

It's still not compatible with the GPL, as I can't relicense the artwork under the GPL or a GPL compatible license.

Something to remember about Tango is that it is not finished. As an unfinished product, certain things are up in the air, including licensing issues. It seems that their original intent was to create a set of icons that could be used in skins and themes, but they didn't take into account the possibility of the icons being bundled into software. Read the following thread from the Tango mailing list for more info:

Seems like I posted in the wrong forum

I posted a logo suggestion in the off topic forum (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/forum/ ... php?t=2355)
but here it is for everyone here to see.

I realize that FileZilla is GPL so I'm willing to make the image GPL too.

I really think that with a name like filezilla - that the icon should speak to both the actions it takes (FTP) and its roots in Japanese culture (Godzilla). I love the Tango icon set, I am going to try and throw something new together for this.

Was messing around in inkscape/photoshop using trying to create a dock icon using velkymx suggestions and came up with the icon below:

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/4581/fz0zs.png

Modeled it around a footprint and the ul/dl arrows associated with file transfers. I'm releasing under Public Domain/GPL license, suggestions on how to improve it are welcome.

p.s. Thank you devs for FileZilla - keep up the great work!

Even if CC licensing isn't compatible with GPL in the sense that you can't relicense it under the GPL it still shouldn't mean you can't just include the art under a seperate license. The GPL is intended for one thing, and one thing only, source code.... I'm pretty sure there's lead way with the art and other non source type files ;)

And I guess with the mention of licensing, I'd like to give you my old icon I made way back when under an LGPL license ;)

@Botg: You still planning on using that one?

Of all I've seen in this forum so far I like Ph03n1x' one best :) ...
However, surfing around, I've found this one

at Deviantart. Since its already published for free, maybe the author also would put it under GPL ...

I actually liked the devianart one. The colors are a bit gay (if I may say so) but it's slick, easy to remember and understand, and it works at small sizes.

With that logo and a nice icon theme, even my mum would feel comfortable in FZ.

Thanks for the support! I was actually using that other one too, the only reason I didn't suggest it for FZ was that it states it is for private and non-commercial use only. Maybe if someone contacts the author they may change their stance...?

In the meantime I've been working on creating an SVG-only version of the logo for people to play around with... Although right now I'm finding it difficult to get inkscape to do what I want! Once I've finished I'll post it up on the boards. :)

Edit: Link to SVG file included.

I was messing around with some Filezilla icons.
I'm a real fan of simplicity.
