Instead of telling filezilla how many files to download at the same time, I would like it to automatically download as many as necessary to make the best use of the bandwidth I tell it to use:
Example:
I tell it to use 2.5 Mbps.
I then add 10 files to the queue.
If the ftp server is fairly slow, then it opens many connections in order to achieve a total of 2.5 Mbps.
If the server is fast, then it may just open one connection.
This way, I get the best use of the bandwidth I want to use without having to tell it how many files to transfer at once, or (like SmartFTP) having to artificially limit the bandwidth for each connection individually.
