filezilla pre alpha

#1 Post by Anders » 2004-04-20 03:35

I'm not trying to report a bug I just want to see if I can get it working. I downloaded the file, unzipped it, and went to run the exe but it couldn't find the component MSVCP71.dll (error flag). So I downloaded that dll file, now I'm just a little unsure as to how to make FZ3 know it's there.

(by the way... I don't think I've posted here before but Ive been reading this forum for a while now, I would just like to thank botg for being one the most active developers I have ever seen... YAY!... many thanks.)

Put it in c:\windows\system32

For a program to be able to find the a dll it needs, it first looks in the same folder as the executable. Which would be a better place to put it. Although putting in system32 will allow any program that requires it to access it.

Bug reporting on FZ3 should happen only after Tim issues the first public beta, not for this prealpha release.

well this isn't really bug reporting this is a discussion on getting it to work between friends. You know... to iron out the kinks amoungst ourselves, rather than posting a bug.

(anyways, I still can't get it to work... but I'm willing to wait for the beta release)

Two things on this

First: You can also put the DLL in the same directory as the Filezilla executable (if you don't want to put it in your system directory).

Second: If you were already doing that, you may be experiencing the same problem I had :D: There are actually two DLLs required.

The first is MSVCP71.dll which you have mentioned.
The second is MSVCR71.dll (Note the 'R' instead of 'P' in this second one, which I got an error message for after downloading MSVCP71.dll).

Dunno about the rest of you, but seeing the error dialog come up again with the only difference being P->R made it hard to notice, especially when I didn't even look closely after I got (almost) the same error after installing the DLL :P

 oops!

that was exactly the problem... working great now... thanks a ton! (shakes with anticipation of FZ3 glee).

wow it's crazy how much that R looks like P if you aren't careful though.
