Pane Layout Needs More Cowbell

#1 Post by hcel » 2006-01-01 23:09

First off, FileZilla, rocks, great program. However there's one little thing that's been bugging me with the interface for quite some time. There's no (obvious) way to free up the local/remote windows or pane them in a manner which I'm used to working in. Could there be a chance sometime in the near future to allow for tiling the windows in the following manner:

Code: Select all

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| remote - Location/dirname info |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| [+] Tree View | File list |
| | | .... |
| .... | .... |
| .... | |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| log |
| log |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| statusbar |
+======================================================================+
| local - Location/dirname info |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| [+] Tree View | File list |
| | | .... |
| .... | .... |
| .... | |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| statusbar |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+

The reason I suggest this, is because that with tree/list views open for both local and remote, it looks terribly cramped when working with a massive site layout (running in 1600x1200) . Not to mention dealing with long filenames while having to view permissions and other details in list view is a scrolling pain (no pun intended).

Figured I'd just toss the idea out if it hasn't been offered up before. A quick search yeilded nothing so I thought I'd put it out there. Pretty Please ? :D

Thanks botg, will this include being able to cascade and detach browser windows within the application as well, or just have a fixed pane layout such as this?

I don't know how I missed it 13 days ago, but this topic's title is one of the best I've ever seen! Thanks hcel!

I have been hoping for this for like over a year now... I just figured someone had already asked, so I didn't bother.

I have used a few other programs with this feature and it is great, but FileZilla seems to be the king of the Open Source FTPs. That is why I keep hoping for it here instead of using SmartFTP, InternetNeithborhood or Whisper FTP Surfer. (Which are all good, they just have their own problems).

So, to me this is the only missing option.

I wish I could help write the code for you, I just don't know how to code!
