Touch Friendly Version?

#1 Post by dharmageddon » 2014-02-08 00:18

I was wondering if anyone was working on a Windows 8.1 touch friendly version of the Filezilla client?

How do you define touch friendly?

In case you mean Modern UI version, FORGET IT. It doesn't exist.

I would like a Windows 8 or Windows 10 touch friendly version of Filezilla also.

I don't know much about the programming side, but does Windows 10 give you a way to design a touch version of the interface as well as the traditional mouse/keyboard interface and switch between them easily when the OS is in touch mode or mouse/keyboard mode?

Worst case scenario, perhaps you could do like Office 2013 and have a touch friendly mode, easily switchable, that enlarges all the buttons and menus to make touch easier.

Why would you want that? unless you are using Windows RT (Which does not allow desktop apps) touch works fine with Filezilla.

AFAIK, no.

I have no touch device to test such functionality on

There's one issue preventing me from using touch devices: Fingerprints. Use any touch device for a few seconds and it's a disgusting smear on the screen.

Tim, if you are in the U.S. the WinBook TW700 is a pretty decent "test" tablet for the money.

I can't help you with any OCD you might have toward keeping a clean glass screen, but smaller screens are slightly more manageable because they can easily be cleaned against a shirt or pants leg with a single swipe.

Touch interaction with Filezilla is workable (though not ideal) on a Surface Pro 3 but especially bad with something like a WinBook TW700.

Even today FileZilla uses the operating system's defaults for things like font and button sizes. Could it be that the root of the issue is that the operating system itself isn't touch optimized?
