[Suggestion] AUTO-NOTIFY + Pressing keyboard letter to jump to directory names

#1 Post by nowisthetime » 2015-09-01 07:21

Hi there, I was really impressed with the speed of reply in my last post... I really like to help people of this speed, not just eternally asking questions / suggesting / donating... but something a bit more real (in other ways at least)

so my suggestion is below but I really would like to hear other parts of you life and what you're striving for...

1. Default on phpBB is OFF for "Notify me when a reply is posted"... big mistake I think as almost everyone wants to be alerted to any replies unless they actually are on the forum (most maybe wait for the email to resume interest)... so setting the defualt to yes / checked means people don't have to click "Notify me when a reply is posted" (some people don't even see it / remember). I also suggested this on another forum and activity shot up! No idea why default is off on a forum!

2. My Suggestion:
You may already have this in newer versions. Currently in 3.9.0.1 (what I use) pressing a keyboard letter jump to the next file name of that letter in the file list area/pane... so pressing t goes to the files/picture starting with t... and you can press to change letter again...
I wanted to suggest pressing keyboard letter to jump to directory names (so same thing but not just working in filename pane/list but the folder)

3. I'll be sticking to this version 3.9.0.1 (is it correct that this version is the last that works in XP?)

You need to upgrade to a more modern operating system. Windows XP contains many critical unpatched security vulnerabilities and must not be use in a networked environment.

Thanks for the tip - although I consider most things unsecure and already settled for any possible breach rather than continuously upgrading / patching and all those 'games' / things we like to do... All this stuff to with computers and vulnerabilities seems a bit never-ending IMHO so one (I) might have to settle for a limit somewhere.... and Windows XP works well / never breached before... plus the newer one's, in my view are only going to be more 'clever' in other ways and resource demanding at the least... this is at more of a cost than any potential (mostly never heard of) breaches / vulnerabilities being actually implemented on domestic setups or people or those who have not much to breach... Appreciate looking out for me and if you've had breaches with XP I'd like to hear about it:)
In fact I challenged a few people to hack my computer... to proove how bad XP might be and so you're also welcome... It's simple... in this challenge I would even give you the computer details (if you really needed it!)... and some actual 1st-hand proof could be found... instead of using it more towards upgrading to 'the latest'.

Windows XP, old version of FileZilla = No support from here. Sorry.
### BEGIN SIGNATURE BLOCK ###
No support requests per PM! You will NOT get any reply!!!
FTP connection problems? Do yourself a favor and read Network Configuration.
FileZilla connection test: https://filezilla-project.org/conntest.php
### END SIGNATURE BLOCK ###

It works so well = no support needed :)

The life-cycle of Filezilla is worth considering... what's the next stage between people... the end game is interesting for me... you guys have one?

I have to admit I don't the whole answer but most lies with working together with projects and aim for more 'togetherness, respect and understanding' which usually is hard to do alone and without actually having a need or want to solve things together...

So for example... "We've solved FTP connecting software and it's covered by Filezilla - what else can we team up with and for what will it solve in the world" - maybe a world directory for books and listings between FTP and HTTP (and if not possible MAKE it possible)

Other Q's that might be less confusing:
- What happens when it's good enough a product / when extra updates are minor or no longer major... Takes same energy?
- How to be able to build on things / help other people out... make break-through's or keep the same...

You can see why many company's / groups see the strategy / need to try and maintain a 'need' / for people to get continuous update, different versions, and of course releasing the newest & 'best' / 'better' products that are maybe not even needed or worth the hype... because people are out of business without them perhaps... maybe none of this applies with Filezilla but interesting to see how else you quality efforts can impact the world... (I'm saying this out of compliment as you seem to have speed and quality covered here - no offence intended at all, just before wondering of I think it's worth asking if you want to entertain any more between people and 'users')

Using a vulnerable operating such as Windows XP only helps criminals and terrorists which use your computer for heinous acts without your knowledge. You must upgrade to a secure operating system.

What heinous acts - could you mention some?
No OS is secure.

Those interested in safety after a while of solving things naturally have their own agendas and ideas and explore other areas... and the need to use others to stay alive can be abusive / wrong / not right for that persons principles.
To be fair how could any business(es) (Operating System makers) respect, understand, and provide for every individual user without using their customers and feeding themselves first (this includes their own ideas of how to extract data or other underhand conversions)... Since you mention 'terrorism' we perhaps can rely on MORE what we can SEE instead of some of what I call 'fears' you mention... so if we can see legal terrorism and have more proof of that everywhere in the world... perhaps that's better to focus on... rather than fear... You might not value this and overrule with what fear and a few examples you might have... I think for sure groups / business ruling over individuals that don't have choice / can't opt-out is a type of terrorism although legalised and normalise through other institutions etc... so your OS and attached systems could also be used for another type of more visible / controlling terrorism >
terrorism: >The calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear.

What heinous acts - could you mention some?
Plenty.

Distributing spam
Breaking into other computers
Distributing copyrighted material without the right-holder's consent
Identity theft
Dead drop
Distributing malware
Engaging in Denial-of-Service attacks
Money laundering
Distributing child pornography
Participating in credit card fraud
Shutting down airports, e.g. by making random bomb threat calls
No OS is secure.
By that logic we should not use airbags and seat belts either.

There is also a distinction to make between known vulnerabilities and yet undiscovered vulnerabilities.

I said "No OS is secure" because you said "You must upgrade to a secure operating system."
What operating system is secure?
Maybe you meant 'more secure operating system' ? Would be good to clear that.

I think you also just took the logic I mentioned and and applied it to other things... we're talking about me and my OS remember... I don't apply all the same logic or spend the same time etc for all other things / and areas - the focus is on OS... not "airbags & seatbelts"

I agree about vulnerability. And I see the list you sent, thanks. Could be real, not seen, or heard enough, even not performed that often. I've experienced nothing first hand and perhaps that's the job of others if they were really were used in that way because of 'XP'. And I've been using it since it since forever and will continue all these years - not much has happened (0) and probably will that I would panic or do all these updates for...

And as for not knowing, though yes without my knowledge maybe 'something' is happening... BUT actually any crimes that are occurring or happening would eventually have come back to my IP from any investigation where I'd be happy to let them try and find out how etc.... and then promptly let you know on this forum!

The fear / panic / possibility could ALWAYS be there when using someone else code or hardware arrangement they have (drivers etc). I don't like the panic though I'm willing to listen to practical reason and weigh if actually it's worth my time and change for possible nothing or continue my world view for togetherness and nice stuff.
Guess I could always run a race to could keep being 'safe' or just be happy / content + it's on someone else and their conscious about any crimes they choose to commit rather and expecting others to follow suit when it's also not guaranteed and new technology / demands higher resources etc...

It's secure enough nowadays for my usage.

Previous question missed - could you reply to generally what more there is to solve:
"...the end game is interesting for me... you guys have one?"
Thanks
