"Welcome Message" not showing up on client side

All,

I've never noticed in the past, but putting a legal banner into the welcome message I realize that the welcome message is not displayed in the client.

Is there a special format for the welcome message?

Anyone know why it doesn't show up?

When logging in with client, part of the status is as follows:

Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status: Initializing TLS...

No welcome message.

Unless you switch on "Detailed Log" (right click the message pane, will last for session only), FileZilla will not show Welcome messages anymore. Browsers also tend to not show it, so, it's a bad place for putting binding legalese to.

If I clear the custom message box, the default "tim" message shows up.

Where is the appropriate place to put a legal banner?

Cannot reproduce, Welcome messages don't show up unless "Detailed Log" is enabled.

FTP is usually a "behind-the-scenes" protocol without GUI features. Welcome messages were once useful, in the early days of commandline interfaces. Now, in the GUI days, there is sadly no place for such messages that will always be shown to the client (as legal banners demand). You need to do it by other means (website, providing FTP accounts etc.).

The proper place to have the user sign a legal agreement is at the point you hand him the password.
