Could have been an IME crash , IME usually runs contextual.

Any third-party software or driver running in the background that doesn't natively come with Windows? If so, what happens if such software is uninstalled?

Integrates with the interactive processes and provides advanced text services (like foreign symbols and letters). If it crashes, it can impact the ability to interact with the input fields.
Prominent example is Win10/Win11 text services crash, which prevents you from typing into UWP apps, including Settings and the Start Menu.

I doubt I have an input method editor program.
Anyhow, there is still a problem: spinners do not copy their contents to clipboard nor do they accept pasted text.

That is a known issue with official releases. The recent nightly builds have that fixed.

You can still copy/paste using the context menu.
