How to delete a file/folder after downloaded

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
I think you do not understand me. I won't ever download and test your version. I just provided a use case for you to consider. I rephrase: ''Ask yourself what would happen if a user, using your patched version, experiences a network failure or transfer interruption.'' You already admitted the patch is buggy; if a user interrupts the transfer him-/herself the file is gone (usually without them having a backup). If the same happens with a unintended transfer interruption the patch is to be considered dangerous and we would have to remove it from this forum.

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
The Internet is full of trolls.
For the ones who are interested in actually using the mod, I've had a transfer error and the remote file wasn't deleted (as expected)
Everything is there, in the FileZilla codebase, to determine if a transfer *is* successful.
EDIT: I've had another failed transfer that deleted the remote file, so Admin seem right, there is apparently no way to determine if a transfer is successful within FileZilla (however other FTP software can, see for example WinSCP in FTP mode)

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
An automatic deletion option in the Filezilla would have been better..you might wanna look into that field..
Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
Won't come, at least not until there's a reliable hash checking (HASH command).

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
I might be being a bit thick here but why would you go to the trouble of uploading a file only to delete it straight away?

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
FTP is File *Transfer* protocol NOT File Management Program.
Filezilla devs keep a strict eye on what is "Real" FTP and not Gimmicks. And they should be quite proud of that fact.
Adding such functionality as "delete after completion" or "Move" may seem like a good idea but it detracts from the Filezilla's core purpose. IE. Pure FTP.
Comparing Filezilla to other FTP applications is totally irrelevent .. If you want to do something which Filezilla does not do then you are not doing FTP and your requirements are outside of the FTP remit.
As boco pointed out, FTP has no capacity to ensure file integrity on transfer completion (other than the inherent checking within the protocol itself) and so this "so called" Auto-Delete patch should include it's own file integrity check.
Adding a patch, which the author admits is so buggy as not to be able to determine the Succeed/Fail status of a transfer, is a foolish idea. If the author (Eric) believes his patch to be something that any FTP program requires then the least he could do is test it thoroughly and express a desire to see that the bugs are resolved.
It is good to have is active development .. it is bad if the development is poor quality.

I can move files around on the remote server without this unreliable add on, what is it's purpose.boco wrote:Moving files A --> B

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
I meant move local files to an FTP server, or vice versa. Without a command to verify the transfer was successful moving is just a bad idea.

Re: How to delete a file/folder after downloaded
Eric Saint-Etienne wrote:As I got bored of manually having to delete large files after they're downloaded, I've patched Filezilla client for Windows (latest trunk as of today, version 3.6.0.2) to allow deletion of files once successfully downloaded.
How to: Select either one or several files in the Remote view and hit [Alt] + [Enter] with your keyboard.
Using the mouse or any other key combination may download but will not automatically delete.
Only files can be automatically deleted: if at least one folder is selected, nothing will be deleted (although the transfer will happen as usual)
The Windows 32 bits installer is here: FileZilla_3.6.0.2_autodelete_setup.exe
If you like it, please post a "thank you" here
disclaimer This added feature isn't supported by the Filezilla team. It works fine for me but isn't fully tested so it is strongly not advised to use it on a server and/or client that contains important/business sensitive files.
Enjoy!
Sayang
NOTE: if Filezilla complains that it cannot find libstdc++-6.dll just copy this file to the installation forder (very likely C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client)
Thank you for your effort !
it looks like the file is not available anymore, any chance that I can get that from you again ? thanks a lot !

Please look at the date of that post. And read the other ones as well. Here's the rundown: That patched FileZilla didn't work as intended.
