[Filezilla Server] Please put hardcoded string in resources

#1 Post by BC-A » 2005-04-27 09:58

Hi, I have already entered this as a Bugzilla report, but I don't know really what is currently used to track such thing (Bugzilla or the forum or whatever...)

It seems like some strings are harcoded in the Filezilla server source code (for interface and service), here is a list I have done:
- "Page" entries (General, Shared Folders, Speed
Limits, IP Filters) in the users and groups dialog of the
FZS interface
- The "ID" "Account" "IP" "Transfer" "Progress" "Speed"
of the main interface dialog for the informations on the
current connections
- barely all strings dealing with the FZS service ("Logged
On" "Retrieving Settings" etc.)

Can you please put this strings as localizable
ressources ? That would help localizers to do a complete translation...

Thanks and regards,

Dear Mister botg :D

Despite I know you are quite busy on the Filezilla 3 dev, is there any chance to get this in future releases of the server :?:

Thanks a lot!

Once FileZilla 3 is done, I'll probably rewrite FileZilla Server. In it's curent form, I've no intention to move the strings to resource files, it's an insane amount of work to maintain any translations based upon .rc files.
The GNU gettext approach I'm using with FileZilla 3 is a million times better. I just put the strings into the code and gettext extracts them for me, so I don't have to worry about it at all.

OK.

The gettext approach is great, I have been following it for three years but I think that good localization tools are missing...

I have the chance to have a powerfull program for localizing .exe or .dll, and I must say localization of .rc based programs is a real simple game...

I hope that it will be as simple with the gettext!

Thanks!
