SF's Webhosting Slow

#1 Post by TheAngryPenguin » 2005-08-29 19:01

Is it just me, or is this site (as well as many other sites hosted by SourceForge) getting slower and slower? Seems like the DB connection for this forum script has been having an especially difficult time lately. E-Mail notifications don't work.

BOTG: Have you considered hosting your site somewhere else (leaving the downloads, bugtracker, CVS, et al here at SF)? It's really unfortunate that SF would let a project as popular as FileZilla suffer so terribly in the web server department.

I'm considering moving the forums to the development server. I already had to move the changelog a while ago.

Not sure if you made any changes since my OP, but things do seem to be better now. You've probably already done it, but it couldn't hurt to reoptimize the phpBB DB, etc. Any news on enabling e-mail notifications?

Email sending over the project webservers had been disabled by SF.net a while ago as far as I know since it was abused too often

I got quite some spam in the last few days here, guess I'll have to move forums to my own server and reactivate email confirmation :/

Surely, there's got to be a way to do this with the forums remaining at SF. Can't you just configure phpBB to use an external SMTP server for its notification messages?!?

Outgoing connections aren't allowed since it was abused.
