I am sure this is answered somewhere, but I have been unable to find it through search. Maybe someone can point me to it?
I am novice at this, but am moving 5 sites to new host and one started about 20 hours ago is still running, so I think there is a better way than just telling it to copy. Not a big site and no pictures.
Any advice would be appreciated.

20 hours is long. How many files are you transferring? What is the total size?

I can help you move your websites but here's the solution to your problem:
If its a wordpress, use backupbuddy, it will copy all your files and database you will just have to upload it on your new server.
When backing up html files, create folder in your computer. Use filezilla to download the files PER WEBSITE(domain) PER FOLDER so there will be no confusion.
That's it. If you want help, pm me

Re: best way to move a site to new host?
The fastest way is to archive all of the files of the site via the cPanel option and download the archive. If there are too many files and the connection is slow, filezilla may download the files very slowly, on by one...

Re: best way to move a site to new host?
I am looking for a fast way to move my site too. Is there some option in Filezilla to do that. I mean transferring the files directly to my other host rather than downloading on my pc and reuploading which will take days if not weeks. I have tried some scripts which were in vain. Please let me know asap.
Thanks
Thanks

FileZilla doesn't support server-to-server transfers, yet.
