OK, I'll fess up right off the bat. I'm posting here because I'm not educated enough in what you people do to post on any of the 'technical' areas. I just really need some help. I'm having a problem uploading to the site. When I finish dragging from the local site to the remote site every thing happens in the program as it should. However when I check the website no change is evident.

Let me set the stage for you. I took on a new job around a year ago. Part of the reason I got the job was because of my technical skills. I made a living for over 30 years as a Consumer Electronics Technician. Been messing with computers for a decade. I'm a better than average IT specialist. During the interview for the job they asked me if I had any website skills. I said no! They hired me anyhow.

I inherited, as part of my job requirements, responsibility for care of the businesses website. Oddly, because during the interview they also asked if I thought I could be 'trained' into handling the website. Whatcha gonna say?

After being in training for about three months my mentor died. No shit! Now don't get me wrong, he'd given me quite a bit of good information but I'd only seen him once a month, for one hour.

Enough of that. Splain to me how long it should take for changes I make to take effect on the website. Michael9

How long it takes depends on the hosting provider. The highest value I have ever heard in these forums is 72 hours.

But first, check if you are fooled by your browser (by emptying its website cache so it is forced to reload from the server).

Thank you. I just couldn't figure out why changes weren't showing up for long periods of time. I thought I was doing something wrong when the changes didn't show up right away so I kept trying different things which, of course, just messed things up. Hope you all can bale me out while I try to catch up with using Filezilla. I really appreciate it.

hi there,
What if i am unable to use the ftp via filezilla? My stupid hosting provider, host india's servers are not reliable. Sometimes the connection is terminated after 5 mins of the starting of the download process.
Is there any other way?
Thank You!

If you are constantly having problems uploading to a server on a particular host, there is a simple solution. Move to a proper host who provides the service you are paying for. If you are only working on free hosts, then you havae to make do with what you are given.

how did you made changes to the website in the first place if you have major issues ftping onto the site?
i presume you're editing html files and try to upload them to the server?
