Creating a dummy site offline

Creating a dummy site offline

How do you do this when you have no URL host site? I am using Word to create an idea site with idea pages. These in final form will go to a web-proficient developer for the actual execution but this seems like a highly convenient approach for mock-up work. Is there a way?

Thanks for whatever help

Hi

You can create a website in html an host it on your local computer. There are good and free tools to do this. You can use: XAMPP (Cross-Platform Apache MySQL PHP Perl) or WAMPSERVER.

With this you are even able to run a mysql database.

Hope I could help you with this.

Sincerely

Kaemesan

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like there is no way to just bundle a group of hyperlinked Word web pages together in FileZilla and name one for them "index" for a home page and just access the collection as a dummy site from a browser. or, is there?

I will be checking out your recommended approach. Thanks again.

If the sites are linked properly, you can browse them locally with only a browser. You'll then see file:// links in the address line.

There are even tools replicating online sites for offline use.

Thanks for this reply. "if the sites are properly linked..." I assume they are properly linked in as much as with both pages open in Word, hyperlinks between the pages work fine, but with both pages open in either Explorer or FireFox the links are unobservable and inactive. Can you offer any suggestions?

Thank you.

The links must be of the relative type. Since I do not have any experiences with Word (there are better HTML editors), I do not know what links it uses. Check directly in the HTML: If you see any links starting with C:\... etc. they are NOT correct).
