I noticed when creating a new account that passwords were limited to 30char

Are passwords hashed on this site or stored in plain text

Yes, they are either hashed or stored in plain text.

You may want to answer precise question where a Yes actually conveys information ;)

While that did answer your question, to answer your intent, they are hashed.
