Filezilla alternative ? Bash cli. Keeping a persistent connection ?

Having issues with Filezilla. Want an alternative backup.
I use the ubuntu bash cli for most purposes. However whenever i try to use it for FTP over TLS.
The connection times out after 60 seconds or so.
Since this is Off-Topic. Thought I'd ask the FTP experts how do i keep a persistent connection going in emacs/bash ubuntu 20.0.4 LTS ?
