Low copy speed through internet connection
Hi! My friend hosting FTP through FileZilla server. Local copy is fast enough, when he tries it from his another local computer. But when i'm trying to copy about 40-50 small files (3-5MB) through internet connection, it takes ages to be done.
Router: Asus RT-AX58U
Opened ports: From ***01 to ***13

Re: Low copy speed through internet connection
How low in absolute numbers is low?
Re: Low copy speed through internet connection
Transfering 210 files (Total size about 45Mb) will take about 15-20 minutes.
Re: Low copy speed through internet connection
That's quite low indeed. How is the server machine connected to the router? In case of a wireless connection, try a wired connection.
Firewalls and AV snake oil products can have a huge impact on transfer speeds, try removing them for a test. It might also be worth trying to plug the server machine directly into the modem, thus bypassing the router entirely.

Re: Low copy speed through internet connection
The server machine is connected via a 1Gbit cable. The router is connected to the Internet using IPoE technology and 300 Mbit/sec.
Disabling the Firewall on the server and the router did not help at all. The same goes for antivirus.
There is no way to test direct connect bypassing the router. However, we tried to replace the router with another one, but it did not work either.

Re: Low copy speed through internet connection
Is that internet connection a symmetric one? Downloading from your server uses your upload bandwidth, and many ISPs provide much lower bandwidth for upload. Example: I have 1Gib/s down (actually a bit more) but only ~50Mb/s up. That's a huge difference as I could only use my 50Mb/s when downloading from my server.

Re: Low copy speed through internet connection
Thanks for the help. We had to look for the problem ourselves. We solved it - installed an FTP server from other developers. Now transferring 210 files with a total size of 45MB is much faster.
