newbie problem with setting ftp serever running

#1 Post by mCrvn » 2006-07-05 21:13

ok maybe not a total newbie...

but whatever i do i get this :

FileZilla Server version 0.9.18 beta
Copyright 2001-2006 by Tim Kosse (tim.kosse@filezilla-project.org)
Connecting to server...
Connected, waiting for authentication
Logged on
Creating listen socket on port 21...
Failed to create listen socket on port 21
Failed to create a listen socket on any of the specified ports. Server is not online!

ok - now i'm using KIS firewall - even if i switch it off the message still persists.

the server doesn't seem to work - both anonymous access or normal user access generate error 530 user cannot log in...

any help would be appreciated.

OS - WinXP Pro.

Got other web servers running smoothly (apache server)...

With high possibility another program/service is using your port 21.

- Press WIN+R
- Type 'cmd' (without quotes)
- Type 'netstat -a -b'
- Search for port 21 and identify application
- Stop that app to listen on port 21
- Once port 21 is no more used, you can start FZS

it's used by IIS as far as I know. You might need to shut down IIS.

i thought i did that earlier... but heck - might be that visual studio on installation turned the IIS on back again.

will check that ;-) and surely will tell you how i'd worked it out ;-0 (at least a little)
