how to change the server ip to a name?

#1 Post by riTheOne » 2009-11-09 04:19

Hello,

I wonder, how to change the ftp ip (ftp://192.168.1.2/) to a name like (ftp://myname/) ?
It because i don't want client to see the ip. Is that possible?

For your info, I can't access the router or modem to configure or do a sating. The router or modem was handle by Security team. I don't want to deal with them.

No. An IP cannot be hidden.

Sorry, without configuring your router your server won't be accessible to the outside.

the ip you gave is an internal ip, if all you want to do is access internally yes, just use the computer NAME
if you do not remember what your computer NAME is
Open a Command window and type ping localhost

It should show you pinging COMPUTER NAME [ip address] with 32 bytes of data:

and some more data that currently you do not need

But as boco said , if you are wanting access from the internet, then you will need port forwarding on the modem/router
