I need to set up a FTP server on my home PC. I'm using WinXP SP3. I'm using the built-in firewall and I have a direct high-speed cable internet connection. My IP is static.
I don't want to buy a router (or anything for that matter). I don't have a home network. I don't need a home network. I don't want a home network.
So... can I set up this server without any additional hardware or am I SOL?
(I looked at the FAQs and I searched this forum. Searching for "Do I need a router" returns a sh!tload of results, none of which answer my question. I apologize in advance if this question annoys anybody.)

Thank you!

your modem (dsl or cable) may have a router built in
many do , and you will need to do port forwarding with it
It is very hard to find good manuals on modems , but you should be able to GOOGLE it and find something, and if you CAN use it
