Server not seeing connections after being up for 24-48 hrs.

#1 Post by Hayzar » 2010-08-09 02:49

Le'Weird is all i got to say on this one.

After being up and running for only a day or two the server will stop
seeing connections with only one exception, the only way in is via
a client on the machine itself, everything else doesn't see squat!
not even another machine on the local network

Host
-
1 Dell Gx270 3.4Ht CPU (Using Xp for Dell - Service Pack 3)
Nic Card is an onboard gigabit Intel PRO/1000 MT

This is where it gets truly odd-

Took this machine down to scratch reload with a new hard
drive- fresh instill and updated drivers for all devices (From Dell)
said problem still happend, It gets better- tried with a new
netgear gigabit Ga311 Nic card and the same exact thing
happens, after 24 to 48 hours it stops seeing connections

I give up- Help please.

There have been several reports of this issue in the past, though I have never been able to reproduce it.

Update: 15-Aug-2010 For anyone looking into this problem

I think i have found a fix that seems to be working
since my last post said server has been up and running
without going to sleep

In IP Bindings the default is set to "*" to allow all ip addresses
i think here in lies the bug- if i set this to my ip that has access
to the net (Ie. Public Ip) said server does not have a problem, the
moment i set this back it to default the server will go back to the
same pattern (24 to 48 hours later "zzzzzzzzzzzz")

P.s. Like i sad before- Le'Weird.

Interesting.

Can you please try something? Set it back to * and wait until it stops accepting connections again. Then take the server offline and online again using the first button in the admin interface toolbar. Does the server then accept connections again? Or does only a restart of the entire service help?

Is your network hosted or your own? Does your Internet IP change? (Dynamic IP)

I am sitting on a bridge (Bridged Circuit) with my own Ip addresses
and the public ones (All Static)

[Update]

As to a previous post asking about setting it the ip bindings back to "*"
(Ie. Default) i think a previous post answered that, yes i did- said
problem returned the next day, i do not like changing this off
the default setting but if thats what its going to take then i do it.

As of right now its up and i do not want to jinx it.

I've had this problem for years with just this software and restarting the service has generally made it work again for awhile until it does it again. I'll try binding to my wan address and see if that works for me as well. Thanks for the heads up.

[Update :01-Oct-2010]
~
As before the server will goto sleep after 24 to 48 hours on default settings
with ip bindings set to a ip address i have found that this sleep hic-up still
happens but with more usage times, a week to 10 days at the outside
however even with this setting it still sleeps after awhile

Other servers (Of Open Source) on said machine do not have this problem
nor does this ftp server software have this problem on other machines
just thiis one.
