Directory List Error

#1 Post by sharf » 2010-09-03 04:42

Ok so I'm not sure this belongs in the server section or the client section...

My server works great, everything is fine, but I just moved to college and now my college is causing me problems.

First off, they wont let me connect if I force SSL. If I disable it I can connect, not a HUGE deal.

What is the problem, is that it sits there, goes passive, then connects, and says either file directory list unsuccessful or something like that, or it just says current directory is "/" and shows nothing...

I guess I'm wondering how to fix this, like if there is a port they are blocking that I can change in the filezilla settings?

Thanks, sharf.

Have you been able to connect to your server from another external location other than your college?

Yes it worked from external locations before.

I KNOW it is my school blocking something, but I'm not sure what or how to find out.

Does anyone have any ideas? and can they point me in the direction of a solution?

Try changing the port range you are using to connect to your server with.

Try contacting your network administrator so that he can setup the network correctly.

So I am going to assume you are using FileZilla client. When you create a new site there is a URL address and port you specify. So what I suggest to you is change the port range and listening port on your server and then plug in the new listening port in the port field when connecting to it from college. Out of curiosity, what is it now?

Use a custom port range. Change it to something high, like 50000-50100 or something.

I would like to keep port 21 open for most users, but 50000 does work...can I put 21,50000 in the port range and have both used like any normal port mapping?

Thanks, sharf

You should be able to use 21 as listening port, but the data port range must be forwarded also.
