500 Command not understood

Hi guys - hope you can help with the following issue.

I have Filezilla FTP server running on a Windows 2003 server running IIS 6. I have setup two groups for our web development team and a set of user accounts.

The group I have created in Filezilla FTP is set to connect to the root of one of our websites. They can login fine and modify/upload new files across to any folders, however if they attempt to upload to a folder which is setup as an application (gear icon) in IIS the transfer goes through successfully (according to their FTP client) however if i check the directory in the file manager in IIS theres no sign of the file..

Any ideas on why this might be happening? It's pretty odd, because the FTP client doesnt throw a permissions error, and actually states the file is transferred successfully.. however there is no sign of it in IIS's folder structure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

IIS may redirect directories/folders. FileZilla Server and the clients are not aware of this so the following situation may occur:

1. IIS creates empty directories on the HDD.
2. The directories are then redirected to the IIS structure. So the physical directories stay empty all the time, they only serve as placeholders.
3. FileZilla isn't aware of this and writes the files into the real directories (as it isn't integrated into Windows). Because of the redirection you won't see them there, but as they have been transferred successfully, there's no error.

I that assumption is true, there's unfortunately no real solution. If it's only an account problem (FZ Server runs under SYSTEM, which may be excluded from redirection), then it may help to include that account or run FZ Server under a different one.

Hi - Many thanks for your response. It certainly sounds like this is the cause.

Unfortunatey this means I will have to try another piece of FTP server software, unless I can think of a workaround.

You know that IIS itself includes an FTP server? Usually I wouldn't recommend it, but in this special case...
