Ok, I have set the passive mode in filezilla, I have opened ports 21 and 5000-5100 on my router. I have set my static ip as the external ip used in passive mode area. Should I be using my internal network ip or external static ip??
yet I still get can't open data connection when i try to connect. I have read the faqs but still stuck.
Any help??

Ok set that.
passive port 5000-5001
On my router port opened 5000-5001
On windows firewall exception on TCP port 5000
If I turn my firewall off I can make a connection and see dir structure but if I try to transfer files I get data connection error
Something still screwy

Seems to be a windows firewall problem. Tunr it off and it all works perfect, turn it on and can't make data connection.
Any one got ideas on how to fix this so that firewall can be on??

Problem Solved. How you ask. Start menu>comtrol panel>internet options>advanced and uncheck passive ftp
In filezilla set passive ftp to default and hey presto, ftp with windows firewall on.
So what is so important about passive mode??
