Cannot Connect to Server Externally - Ports Open, IP Right

#1 Post by monkeycurious » 2006-08-27 06:40

External port scan reveals the port, (21000), is open. Ports are forwarded. External IP and passive ip setting quadruple checked and verified.

I have tried other ports, also to no avail.

I can connect to the server with localhost normally, with explicit SSL and implicit SSL on the implicit port 21001.

I cannot connect with web2ftp.com: "The server name is not valid, the specified server is temporarily unreachable or rejects FTP connections."

Ethereal, internally, reveals a 3 TCP SYN ACK sequences, (SYN from web2ftp, SYN ACK to web2ftp and ACK back from web2ftp X 3), sequences ending in a FIN from web2ftp roughly 120 seconds later, (TCP connection timeout?).

There is nothing in the log about the connection attempt.

I have no IP addresses in either of the IP Filters.

Running on XP Pro Post SP2, no firewalling on, doubled checked. Testing with Norton off and the Filezilla Server allowed internet access. Double checked

Linksys Router with ports 21000 to 21010 TCP/UDP forwarded and set 21002 to 21010 in the Passive mode settings. Double checked. The server says the listen ports were sucessfully created. Double checked.

What the hell am I missing?

What about Windows' own firewall?

Sorry, that's what I mean by no firewalling.

Okay, I moved it to my Windows 2000 server and forwarded the ports there and it works!

Definitely an XP Pro issue.

I have looked at the Windows Firewall settings fify times and they still say it is Off.

I have turned off Norton and set Filezilla server to have the internet access it desires.

What the hell else could it be?

Okay, when I turn off Internet Worm Protected it work externally, even though FileZilla Server is list of trusted application for all actions, IP, ports, etc.

I am not sure why this is.

Uninstall all symantec products would be my suggestion.

I hate those guys and how things that are suppose to be 'excluded' or 'turned off' or 'disabled' really aren't and all the problems it causes.
