I have already configured router and i have forwarded port 20 and 21 and 50000 to 50100 range (i think this is for passive ftp).

same thing here. I can't use Firefox or Internet explorer to connect to the server now. It doesn't ask me for anything and jumps straight to the error page saying that a password and uername wasn't entered. It used to prompt me though.

My english is not good and i think that probably people can't undersatnd what i have previously written! So i will reply

The connection from outside (internet) to my filezilla server fail if people from outside use browser to connect. If people use ftp client like cuteftp the connection works good.

Many people use only browser so i'd like to correct this problem to make my server work properly also with browser (iexplore and firefox)

Try enabling the Network Address Translation (NAT) function on your router, instead of IP forwarding.

Also, Filezilla FAQ recommends the TCP port range for Passive mode to be 5000 - 5100, not 50000 to 51000. I'm not sure if that was just a typo in your post or not.

Once you enable the NAT function and point your external IP to your FTP server, you should be able to browse to your FTP site by entering your external IP address (ex. ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/).

give that a try....

Have you confirmed that the PASSIVE mode is enabled in your browser?

In IE, you can find it at: TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > ADVANCED tab.

Make sure the "USE PASSIVE FTP (for Firewall and DSL modem capability)
is checked.

firefox

When typing my server URI into firefox it prompts for username/pass. After entering them in, it thinks indefinitely and does not connect.

However, when I include the username into the URI (eg: 'ftp://myusername@ftp.example.com') it works flawlessly. Why is this happening?

NOTE:I have instructed my windows clients to download and use FZ, but many refuse. Most use IE (i am ok there) and a large proportion are using firefox.

Fix For IE and Firefox

#8 Post by dewman13790 » 2007-03-07 18:25

I had to UNCHECK the passive FTP option in internet explorer on the client who wanted to connect to the FTP server in order for them to work with filezilla's server. Once that was unchecked it worked fine.

Read the FAQ how to properly configure your server/router/firewall in order for passive mode to work.

Hi,

a nice feature of the IE or Fireox Browser is - as mentioned above - that you dont have to install a client.

Just use ftp://Your_IP_Adress

My questions:

- Is there a way for uploading files by using the browser?
- Is there a way to invoke an SSL transmission?

thx
peter
