Filezilla Server keeps crashing, even after updating to 9.45

FileZilla Server randomly stops working. It was happening on 9.37, then I upgraded to .45 and still crashes randomly

I can't figure out why's happening or what I should be looking for.

I have logs enabled, but nothing shows up, looking at the event viewer I can see all the times it has crashed, but no clue as to why.

Could someone please tell me what I should be looking for?

I've attached a screenshot.

Can you reliably reproduce the crashes?

I can not reproduce, it just happens randomly when users are connected and downloading

every time the faulting module is libeay32.dll 1.0.1.8

is there a different version available?

I've observed a few of those myself, though never been able to reproduce it. Always a crash deep inside OpenSSL in some hand-crafted assembler code :(

For what it's worth, when I get to finally rewrite FileZilla Server at some point in the future, I'll use GnuTLS instead.

I just donated $50 to your paypal.
I appreciate the work you've done with filezilla, I've been using it for many years.

Filezilla client/server is the best FTP program out there.

if there is anything that I can do to help troubleshoot the issue, let me know.

Thanks for the donation.

Please try this test version of FileZilla Server: https://filezilla-project.org/codesquid ... S_test.exe

It links against a more recent revision of OpenSSL which contains a number of changes related to its inline assembler code.

thank you, i'm testing it out now, I'll let you know in a few days if it crashes again, usually it crashes every 2 to 3 days.

:(

At least the fault offset is the same each time giving hope to reproducibility.

What happened at the time of the crashes? For example, what were the number of connected users and what they were doing? Which client software were they using?

for what it's worth. I've noticed the computers causing the crashing are running windows xp.

As a band-aid fix:
I've suppressed the windows error messages, so filezilla exits without any pop ups.
Then I created a windows task to monitor the event log for application errors (1000) and have it starting Filezilla /compat /start

it's not fixing the crashing, but it's restarting the server when it crashes.

If there's any info you need on this to help troubleshoot, I will provide it.

It's difficult to say because when it crashes the log stops. all I can see is the activity right before the crash.
Sometimes the user is just connecting/disconnecting or downloading a file.
there are usually only 2 or 3 concurrent connections at one point in time.

Thanks. We're slowly narrowing in on the issue. 0x00007196 tells me a lot, but unfortunately not quite enough.

Please replace FileZilla Server's ssleay32.dll with the following version: https://filezilla-project.org/codesquid ... leay32.dll

In this version optimization in the source file corresponding to 0x00007196 has been disabled. If this version crashes as well, I should know the exact line of code where the crash happens.
