#1 Post by KVSSetty » 2007-05-17 12:45

Hello to All,

I am very new here so sorry if i go wrong.

I have set up FTP using IIS componenets and FTP site is working,Now I like to use FileZilla sever how do I disable IIS and use FZ server any help is appreciated.

I am new to FTP world and know only basics trying to learn more.

I have installed FZ sever already on my server machine but i am sure it is IIS is acting as FTP server, but i want FZ to take over because it is easy to set up user accounts in FZ server, and i like FZ server interface.

So how do i Switch over from IIS to FZ .

Does the FZ work on top of IIS? or
Can i remove IIS,if so how to remove?and ultimately i want FZ be my FTP sever.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

FileZilla works independantly of IIS.

As to how to disable IIS, I don't know, I've never used it. But I can imagine it runs as system service, so just disable the iis service.

Hi KVSSetty,

The easier way of definitely disable IIS (in Windows Server 2003, but i think its the same in XP) is to go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components > Application Server > Internet Information Services (IIS) > File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service (disable this one).

If all goes ok, Filezilla takes control of your ftp traffic.

Hello Chromoplastic,

Got it!, Done as per your suggestions and now FTP is now under the control of FZ server, thanks for the help.

But in XP , I disabled IIS by going to Control Panel >Administrative Tools >Services>IIS FTP server.

Great help and thanks again.
