Re: Stuck on "Connected, waiting for authentication"

I have the same issue with FileZilla Server 0.9.60.2 running a Windows Server 2008 Web Server, where we have the current version of FileZilla Server running, and for about 5 or 6 days the system is running fine with users connecting to the FTP Server, and then all of a sudden users cannot connect any longer, and when I log onto the server to check, I get the "Connected, waiting for authentication" when I try to connect to the FileZilla Server Interface.

I try to restart the FileZilla Server Service, but that get´s stuck in a "Stopping" state, not even killing the tasks helps, eventually have to reboot the server, then it works again for some time and then the error occurs again.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

A reboot shouldn't be needed, try killing the server process and then restarting the service.

Hi botg,

tried that, it hangs in the "stopping" state. Even tried the Taskkill command from an admin command prompt and that unfortunately didn´t work. So had no choice to reboot the server.

Any ideas what else I could tried would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If the task cannot even be killed, then the problem sits deep. On modern operating systems, unkillable tasks are stuck in a syscall, waiting on the kernel. Probably a classic somewhere in the kernel or one of the many drivers running in kernelspace.

Hi botg,

Thanks for your response.

Do you know what I could look for, as the drivers/windows updates have not been installed or updated since Sept 2018, and the issue started back in January 2019.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve
