With transfer type as auto, the digital signature of a binary file (e.g. executable) would be modified. To preserve the digital signature, binary mode needs to be selected. The problem was observed when transferring an executable file from linux to windows, and vice versa. Shouldn't type auto distinguish the file type difference and adjust automatically?

The type is detected purely based on file extension. See the settings dialog what extension-less files are detected as.
