Networkshares not working after Router Change
Hi Guys
I'm struggling with Strange Problem. I had to change my Router so i got a new TP Link Archer C5400. Except for that and the IP Of the Client where i'm running FZS. the Client had a "0.99" IP before and now it has a "0.180". I Opened the Ports on the new Router and changed the local port from 21 to 2100 because of the ALG-FTP Garbage on the Router. I was up and Running in no Time and the Server was accessible from outside. Anything was there. Visible anything looked good. All Drives are accessible except for the Networkshares.
I got 3 Networkshares like you see in the following Picture
Let's take the first for Example. That's how i used to have before the Router change and anything was ok. I connect the Networkshare to my Drive Number E on the ZFS Client wit a Useraccount that is only for this. The Folder is shared with that suer and the User has all Access Rights Possible.
Then he get's a Alias like all others. The Underlines are to get the view sorted by names and Numbers in Client View.
Like i said anything looks just fine on the CLient except that there are no Files on the Folders of the NEtworkshare.
Also on the Server Log it tells me that anything loaded just fine.
Someone has some sort of Idea where the Error might be? I had a look at this Thread viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9200 but all what has to be done there was done from me already before the router change took place. So i'm kinda confused what it could be.
Thanks

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
no one a clue? or a hint? something i could try?
Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
First, please note that we do not support Network Shares (SMB). It either works or it doesn't.
That being said, in case your OS is Windows 10, forget about the rest. The problem is most probably that MS stopped support for the SMBv1 protocol (due to security issues). Later Windows 10 versions remove support for SMBv1 from the OS automatically if it isn't used in a while (new installation have it disabled from the start).
Check in "Turn Windows Features on or off" if SMB 1.0 support is enabled.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
Hi
Thanks for the Idea. I checked that before and did it now again. On both devices SMB 1 is open. Also like i said only the Router was changed. Nothing else. Worked before with the Sme operating Systems i'm using now.
That is why it makes almost no sense for me.
Thanks allot anyway. Makes me crazy that it worked before but now not.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
No idea then.
The router might have a feature that filters SMB 1.0 traffic "for security reasons". Or the firewall might now block SMB 1.0 traffic by default.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
Hi
I will check that as well. From the Router Poit on view i turned anything off that might could cuase Problems like FTP-ALG, SPI Firewall and stuff like that. The FTP works with that stuff turned on and also when it's turned off.
Could it be that this only workes when the Server is using Port 21? I had to change the Server Port to 2100 because the Router got a FTP Option to share pluged USB Devices over FTP. I have the Possibility to change the Port this FTP Option is using to something else but i can't get to my FZS even then when i use 21. Like the Router is blocking that Port for being used by anything but the FTP Option of the ROuter itself.
What i also tried was to add the Shares directly over the Network. This also didnt worked. The only thing that changed was that instead of having the DriveLetter "E:\" i have the complete Network Path that in my case is "\\SANTI-WKS\Actors D - G". When i try that i don^t see the Folder at all on the FZC. Is pretty strange all that.
Turned off UAC now on both Clients but it seems that this makes no difference at all as well.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
Usually, the router ALG and "NAT helper" crap only applies to the default ports (21 for FTP). It targets casual and inexperienced users, who do not use custom ports. Another way to dodge the dodgy stuff in the router is to use FTP over TLS. Encrypted traffic can not be processed by the router as it looks like garbage without the correct session decryption key.
The NAS/SAN feature usually only activates if there's actually a USB device attached. I suspect it's rather the router's remote administration feature blocking.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
I found the Solution.
First of all, it has nothing to do with the Router.
First of all, I checked the Service of Filezilla and changed that to a new Created User that is Member of the "Administrator" Group.
I was right by assuming that it's not even needed to map or connect any network drive to the machine that is has FZS running. It has to be Shared with a specific user or with "anyone" on the Network.
On the Next Picture you see that I check the Network and there you have the 2 Machines. Machine "1" that is the Server with the FZS on. Machine "2" is the Client where the Drives are that I want wo be seen in FZS and that are network shares.
So if i click on Machine "2" under the Network (Point 1 on next Image) and i see that the Folder is Shared properly (Point 2 on next image).
Then i get back to FZS and add the Network shares. Like i said above they are not mapped or connected at all. I simply add them over the Network of Machine 1 where FZS is running.
As you see on the next Picture i simply add the drives over the Network (1) then i choose the machine where the drives are (2) and choose the Folder i wish to add (3)
I found out that There is something funny with the Alias. The Alias name has to be the same as the Folder name. So if the Folder name is "JDOWN" and your alias is "New" the folder is not showing on the Server. If you choose "JDown" as Alias it works without any Problem. Also add Underlines or @ signs in front of the Alias seem not to be a Problem. My Alias is "/______________________Actors D-G" just to get all sorted and that works as well.
Anything is accessible and showing. I will also check if anything is still running with UAC turned back on and Firewall and ALG Stuff on the Router and let People know in here. On my Point of View the Account Change on the Service was the Solution. Anything else was tried before without working.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
I just made the same test. Successful. Was about to write the result here, but no need, anymore. Just remember that updating the server will usually reset the service user back to SYSTEM (which has no network access).
In my case, i can name the Alias everything I want. Pressing F5 in my client to refresh the listing and then accessing it is successful.

Re: Networkshares not working after Router Change
funny now i rechanged the Alis and it worked also for me.
also turning back on Firewall on Windows and Router, ALG-FTP on Router and UAC Controll on both Machines didn't caused any trouble. So seems really to be the Service.
You mean windows update on the FZS Machine put's it back on?
Happy i sorted it out. Thanks for your Input.
