Users unable to write to their directories even with permissions

Hi all,
I have a group of users that are sharing files via FTP. For example:
C:\FTP\DEVELOPER\<username>
They have access to other areas of the FTP, but I have been mapping each user's developer area by adding it to their profile, selecting an alias of "/DEVELOPER" and having it point to their directory.. for example C:\FTP\DEVELOPER\MARYSMITH would see the alias "/DEVELOPER" when Mary logged in and it would be in the C:\FTP\DEVELOPER\MARYSMITH directory.
When they log in, they can see the directory and all the existing files that were copied into it, but they can't upload or make any writes to this directory. I have checked their permissions for that individual directory in their user profile - and they are all checked ON for all the writing/creating/etc., options.
I'm sure it's something simple I am missing, but can't figure out why they aren't able to write to their own directories, even with the permissions set to allow them?
Thanks!
