Logon prompt is shown when accessing FTP server in browser

Hi there,

I currently setup FileZilla as the FTP server with user "anonymous" enabled (also other accounts that require password to access). When I try to access the FTP server by browser (IE11), a logon dialog is shown and asking for the credential.

Is there any configuration in FileZilla server that can be set to let FileZilla default to using the credential "anonymous" instead of prompting the logon dialog every time?

Thank you.

P.S. I would like to keep the other accounts so that I can do the access control on the files on FTP (anonymous only have the read access while other accounts can have write access)

No, this behavior is entirely governed by the used client.

Thanks botg for your prompt response.

May I know which setting is related to this behavior?
I am using IE11 on Win10.

Thanks.

First, if Win10, always state which build. Win10 is a moving (read: tumbling) target.

Second, I tested and could not reproduce that behavior. Are you sure the account is named "anonymous" and the "Require password" box is unchecked? Plus, are you sure it's IE11 and not Edge?

Hi boco,

Sorry for not providing enough information for troubleshooting.

I tested on the below Win10 build which will prompt the logon dialog box
- Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB 10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393
- Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 10.0.17763 N/A Build 17763

The below Win10 build will not prompt the logon dialog box
- Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise Evaluation 10.0.18363 N/A Build 18363

The logon dialog box prompts when I try to download and open the .docx file (please refer to the attachment FTP_open_docx_file.png)

Please note that either one the following situation will not prompt for the logon dialog box:
1. Click "Save" button instead of "Open" button when asking how to handle the file
2. Downloading a .txt file or .png file. Another tab in IE will be shown to display the content of the file.

The account "anonymous" is created and no password is required. I am using IE11 with version 11.1158.17763.0.

Hope the above information helps. Thanks.

I still cannot reproduce it (the dialog box). The prompt when downloading a file ("What do you want to do with file X") is normal and has always been that way. It is only controlled by the used client, the server has no say in this.
