internal transfer buffer size & socket buffer size?

#1 Post by johhnyk » 2021-08-01 21:00

I have a 125MB/s local network. My HDD's can go up to 250MB/s.

What should I set the internal transfer buffer size & socket buffer size to?

I am reading here

viewtopic.php?t=3641

How is 32768 to KB?

And how is 262144 to KB?

I am lost because I do not know how to configure these two boxes in the server settings.

Thanks.

Also my ethernet cables are CAT6.

If you are using the new FileZilla Server 1.x, buffer settings do not exist. Only the old Server 0.9.60 has them.

Byte to KByte (binary 2-based): Divide by 1024.

32768 = 32KiB
262144 = 256KiB

Which ftp client are you using? It seems to not support TLS session resumption, which is now required by the new server, for security reasons.

Your old settings have not disappeared, unless you've deleted them they should still be where they were. If you want to go back to the old server, just reinstall it.

Let us know if it works.

All android ftp/ftps apps do not have tls. What should i use on my android 11 so i can use the new server?

I looked for filezilla for android, cant find it.

If you have an issue with a particular client for Android, contact your client vendor for assistance.

That said, I'm not aware of any quality FTP software for Android. Would it be possible to install a x86 emulator on Android, install Windows on it, FileZilla on top of it and then mount your underlying storage into this virtualized Windows?

It makes no sense to force tls while most clients use android nowadays to ftp in and out. Every android client i use fails to have tls.

The client now im using is ftpcafe. No more updates.

The ftp clent side a is a hot mess on play store.

Love to see fileilla come out with ftp for android.

The server does not enforce TLS by itself, even though it can be configured to do so.

The problem in your case is not that the client doesn't support TLS, but that it doesn't support TLS resumption: without TLS resumption, there would be no way to know that a data connection was really opened by the same user that logged into the FTP server. With session resumption, it's like a "token" gets passed from one connection to the other so that the server knows who's who.

Update.

I just found an Android client that does support TLS session resumption: Total Commander.

Make sure to download the FTP plugin (directly from the app itself) and explictly enable "SSL cryptography" when configuring the server connection.
