No main window

#1 Post by bc1235 » 2021-10-13 21:26

I've just installed filezilla server (1.0.1) on windows and after starting and connecting to server I only have a tree menu but no "Main Window" as I've seen on all the tutorials. I've tried completely
uninstalling and reinstalling. I've also attempted installing on a separate machine with the same result. I haven't found anything about this on the forum. What am I doing wrong. Attached is the layout I get when I run the administrator.
Thanks

Main window? Are you sure you didn't want to get the FileZilla Client, instead?

That is an excellent document but doesn't address my question and actually creates an additional question. The document referenced, (section "Setting up and testing FileZilla Server") shows a window titled "FileZilla Server Options". As you can see from the uploaded image I don't show that window and can find no way to access it. The only windows I see available are the two illustrated in my screen shot. The first (back screen) is the one I get when I select the "Administer FileZilla Server" shortcut. The one in front is what I get when I chose "configure" under the "server" menu option at top. Am I missing something along the way? I've looked at numerous tutorials both written and on youtube. I've totally uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I hate to seem a total idiot but I sure would like to get this up and functioning properly.

The Wikipedia page you are most likely referring to describes how to set up the old FileZilla Server, version 0.x. Version 1.0.1 deviates significantly from the old interface, and the wikipedia page has not been updated yet.

What is the main difficulty you are facing, while setting up the server?

Actually the site I used is the one you referenced, https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Netw ... lla_Server
I can't enter any of the configuration information like "active or passive mode", Transfers, etc.

Active or Passive mode is set in the FTP client. The FTP server must be prepared for both. Active mode is also configured in the client, in its entirety. In other words: The settings you are naming are client setting. That was the reason I asked if you wanted to transfer files (which needs the Client, not the Server).

Passive mode is configured in the server, available on the "Passive mode" tab in the settings.

Okay, got that part. I've installed the client. What I'm trying to do is set up a data logger. I have an arduino EXP32 weather sensor and want to log temperature etc. to a file on my computer.
I've installed the server and client now. I've started the server, created a user. Now I need to set up a shared folder correct? Where do I configure the permissions for that?
I've been trying to follow some of this from this youtube video (publisehd 2020) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GE8XSxRWfOI because he is doing something similar. He is sending a picture from his ESP32 board to his computer (server is on his local computer (closed LAN). He seems to be setting this up from within the server settings though once again his server console looks more like the client console though the top of the window reads filezilla server. From his console he is setting user permissions. I know I'm being a bit of a pain but it's difficult to follow when there is so many conflicting instructions.

Well I have it configured. I still don't know why my console doesn't look like the ones shown in all the documentation and tutorials but other than my OCD it's not important. Thank you for your help,
Bruce

It doesn't look like the old documentation because FileZilla Server 1.x is new, it's a different product. New documentation hasn't been created, yet.
