The new "Writable" option

#1 Post by TheYawningHippo » 2021-11-01 18:08

The old version of FileZilla server (0.9.6 for example) allowed files and folders to have seperate read/write/delete/append/list+subdirs options enabled at each folder level, this combined with the home dir option was super powerful.

This was invaluable and was one of FileZilla Servers best features.

As far as i can tell, the new server (1.1.0) has replaced all this with a crude "Writeable" boolean flag.

How would one prevent deletion / creation of folders but still allow the writing of files in the new server?

If these options are indeed missing from the new server, are they planned to be re-instated in a future release?

Regards

J.

The server has no ability at the moment to deal with more fine-grained permissions. The team is evaluating the possibility to reintroduce that ability at a later point.

Thank you for the reply oibaf

Whilst unfortunate to hear that these features were removed, i'm glad they're potentially on the cards for the future.

I've had to resort to IIS FTP in the meantime and it's bloody awful lol

As a long time user myself, i would love to see the feature again. After realising the option was simplified, i downgraded to the old version. hope it's coming soon again. thanks for your work.

+1 from me for restoration of the granular permissions. I've been using FZ Server on WIndows for 12 years now, there's no way I can consider moving to release 1 without the ability to control access the same way 0.9 did.

Same for me. I use FTP explicit for the permissions (write but not delete).
